Video: Sony Xperia XA Prototype Appears ahead of MWC 2017

Sony is expected to announce around five new devices in Barcelona next month at the Mobile World Congress trade show, and one of those new phones has just appeared in video form over on YouTube. Thanks to YouTuber TechLoverHD, who seems to have gotten his hands on a prototype of the Sony Xperia XA (2017) we can take a look at what we may be seeing in a few weeks time from Sony. The Xperia XA (2017) doesn’t appear to have gotten a major overhaul in terms of the design. It still has somewhat large bezels, especially on the top and bottom of the device. This particular device is the G3121, it’s unclear if that is the model number of the device that will be unveiled in a few weeks or not. It also has a 23-megapixel camera, and that’s it for the specs that were shown off in the video.

In the video, it does show that it is running on Android 7.0 Nougat, along with the January 5th, 2017 security patch, so it is a fairly recent prototype, at least the software is fairly recent. The device appears to be using a more of a matte color on the back and sides, something that we saw with the Xperia XZ and other Xperia X series devices that the company launched last year. The Xperia XA was a mid-range device last year, and it looks like the successor is going to step things up a bit, since it does have a 23-megapixel sensor inside.

Sony has already announced their press conference for Mobile World Congress, which actually takes place on the first day of the show. The company will likely only show off smartphones and tablets, seeing as they showed off all of their other products at CES 2017 earlier this month in Las Vegas. Since MWC is geared more towards mobile, it makes sense for them to release about five smartphones at the show, which is what they did last year as well. You can check out the video of the Sony Xperia XA (2017) prototype down below. It’s a pretty short, 2-minute video.
