Nest has unveiled a range of new products at a special event in New York including a new doorbell: Nest Hello.
It was only a matter of time before Nest expanded its product range to include security, and with rivals such as Ring stealing a march on Wi-Fi- and camera-equipped doorbells, it’s not too surprising that Nest has added this to its range.
Ring has already released a second-gen version of its video doorbell, the Ring 2.
When is the Nest Hello release date?
There’s no firm release date yet. It will be available in the US and Canada in the first quarter of 2018, and Europe later in 2018.
How much does the Nest Hello cost?
Nest hasn’t announced any pricing yet – you’ll have to wait until close to launch to find out. It’s likely to be around £179, we reckon.
What features does it have?
Unlike other smart doorbells, Hello uses Nest’s face recognition that’s already built-into its IQ camera.
That means that not only will you get a notification that someone has rung the doorbell, but it will also tell you who it is or if it’s an unfamiliar face.
With a built-in speaker and mic, you can talk to the person at the door or use one of several pre-recorded responses via the app.
The camera itself has a 160° field of view and a 4:3 HD sensor.
It connects via Wi-Fi but also has built-in Bluetooth for easier setup.
